Jenny Macdonald

“I’ve had the most interesting career to date, ranging from Office Management for start-ups, through to managing a team within business support services for a multinational, through to setting up and running call centers. As my business skills have always been fairly transferable, my sector experience has also been varied, and I have a good understanding of a number of sectors including technical consultancy, medical device technology, biotechnology, IT, telecoms, engineering, FMCG, and insurance. This has all given me an excellent insight into the world of commerce, and all the constraints and problems which can come with it. I certainly understand what it’s like to try to build a business with no funds, or not have enough resource to get a job done, and how one needs to ‘think out of the box’ in order to come up with the best ideas and solutions.

Having worked for others the majority of my career, a period spent contracting really fuelled my desire to set up my own business and so in Autumn 2007 I decided to set up Waterfall Resourcing with a number of long term associates (including Rebecca). As well as being hands-on with the business, I am currently still the sole executive director and I manage the business with support from the founding team.

A large amount of my background has been spent working within HR (CIPD trained) and recruitment and I would be so bold as to consider myself an expert within these environments. I especially understand end-to-end recruitment, both from an in-house and a supplier perspective, and alongside this the constraints and motivations of all parties involved in the process. Over the last few years I have tried to challenge views on recruitment and how it is performed by both supplier and employer, and to offer different services to help streamline processes for best results. I believe our current services cover anything an employer could look for, with some they may never have considered.

As for my work ethics... I try to get the best work, life balance I can, and always, always work to the highest level of integrity. On the flip side of this, I’ve also learnt that it’s all very well generating the amount of good will we do (mainly by respecting everyone we deal with) as I enjoy the satisfaction this provides. However it won’t pay the bills and so I need to ensure I remember to keep as focused on the chargeable services we offer too..!”

Over this time, I've worked in a variety of sectors including scientific, IT, finance, admin and hospitality. I've held director-level responsibility and am fully aware of the constraints of time and money in relation to running a successful business.


After many years working for leading agencies in Cambridge, I decided to gain a better balance of work with my family commitments and became self-employed, working with companies in a variety of roles. I have now built up an excellent reputation based on professionalism and integrity along with a strong network of contacts in the area.

After meeting and working with Jenny, a shared idea has become a reality in Waterfall Resourcing; an exciting, vibrant company offering companies the flexbility of having high level resources available as and when they need them.
